Port Credit

The village on the lake, with a working main street, a river, a marina, and Mississauga's most social waterfront.

The character

What Port Credit

is

Port Credit is the closest thing Mississauga has to a village downtown. Lakeshore Road carries independent restaurants, coffee shops and small storefronts rather than plazas; the lighthouse at the Credit River mouth is the postcard, and the marina and waterfront trail keep the lake in daily view rather than at arm's length.

Everything centres on Lakeshore Road and the water: the river path and marina, Saint Lawrence Park, the waterfront trail running east and west, and a restaurant strip that draws from well beyond the neighbourhood. Memorial Park hosts the festivals; the farmers' market and the lighthouse district fill in the weekends.

Getting there and around

Port Credit GO is the anchor. Lakeshore West service with express runs into Union is why so many commuters anchor here. The Hurontario corridor's new LRT spine meets the neighbourhood at its northern edge, and the QEW is ten minutes up Hurontario.

The homes

stock

The mix is broader than anywhere else on the city's waterfront: heritage and post-war detached homes on the village streets, townhome rows old and new, and condo apartments from established mid-rises to the new Brightwater phases. It suits downsizers, first-time buyers and anyone who wants the village at their door.

My take

“Port Credit is the most walkable, social pocket of Mississauga's waterfront: village energy with a commuter spine. When clients tell me they want to give up the car without giving up the lake, this is where the search starts.”
